Pre-covid, we had some friends over for dinner and drinks, and as the conversation unspooled, I said something I was afraid would sound crazy: “I kind of believe in alternative universes, and sometimes I wonder what I did wrong to end up this Trumpian, global-warming denying, violent, shitty world.”
Eliza said, “Yeah, I wonder that too sometimes.” She was skeptical about the alternate world thing, but nonetheless strongly related to the feeling.
