Why I Chose to Self-Publish My First Novel

  1. Excellent post, Peg.

Like you, I nearly shelved the YA SciFi (after agents, around the board, told me SciFi isn’t currently marketable in the Young Adult age category) I’ve worked on for two years, without even THINKING about self-publishing as an option!

Foolish. Now that I have, I honestly can’t imagine publishing any other way (though I will still likely try for traditional eventually, while also self-publishing). The experience so far as been amazing, and I am angry with myself for not having considered it sooner.

What is the official release date for The Contenders? I’ll be keeping my eye out for it! 😀

    1. Thanks, Anna! Nice to meet another indie author! I’m sorry to hear that you went through a similar marketing rejection thing with agents (how could SciFi not be popular for teens?!), but I’m really glad you decided to self-publish. That IS the way to go. I look forward to reading your novel someday soon.

The printed version of The Contenders will be out by July 20th but it all depends on if my next proof from CreateSpace (third one’s the charm) comes back correct. I just released the ebook so check that out when you get the chance–it’s currently only on Amazon.
